Celebrating National Families Week & National Volunteers Week
This week marks the start of National Families Week and National Volunteers Week.
The theme for Families Week this year is ‘Stronger Families, Stronger Communities’, while National Volunteers Week reminds us that we are ‘Better Together’.
Both themes highlight the life-changing work we do at CareSouth in supporting families and communities to build a better future in regional areas across NSW.
CareSouth recognises that families come in all shapes and sizes; it takes a village to raise a child; and what matters most is love, respect and connection to community and culture. We offer two carer programs – Foster Care and Aunties & Uncles – because we know there is no one-size-fits-all approach to caring.
Our carers support vulnerable children, young people, participants and families in both big and little ways through our volunteer Aunties & Uncles program and our Foster Care program which includes emergency care, respite care, family preservation and restoration, long term foster care, kinship care, guardianship or adoption.
You may have seen our Care with CareSouth campaign, which provides a snapshot of the wonderful work carried out by our carers. The commitment to each of these programs and the type of care required is different and our staff have been trained to help those interested in caring make the right choice for them and their families.
“I find being a foster carer so rewarding,” said one of our CareSouth foster carers. “I did it to make my life and my son’s life richer. We needed it as much as the children needed carers. My son had to learn to share things, people, places, and time. And the children in our care needed someone to spend time with them, to listen to them.”
It is a sentiment shared by one of our Aunties & Uncles volunteer carers who said: “Aunties & Uncles is an amazing program, not because of what we do for (the young person) but because of what he does for our family. He really is part of our family.”
If your family is willing and able to open their home, hearts and minds to create stronger families, stronger communities and better futures together, please contact our friendly Call Centre team on 1300 554 260 or explore our website further to begin your care journey.
